How to Use the Search Feature

Welcome to our Federal Register Document Search page! This guide will help you effectively use our search tool to find documents related to pension plans. Our search engine supports a variety of advanced features:

Part I: Boolean Queries

Boolean queries allow you to include or exclude words using AND, OR, and NOT operations. For instance, to find documents about pension plans but not related to waivers, you can search: pension & plans -waiver.

Part II: Phrase Search

Use quotes to search for exact phrases. For example, "employee pension plans" will find documents with this exact phrase.

Part III: Exact Form Searches

Use the '=' operator for exact word matches. For example, =retirement will only match 'retirement' and not 'retiring'.

Part IV: Proximity Searches

Specify proximity matches using the '~' operator. For example, "pension distribution"~3 allows for a few words between 'pension' and 'distribution'.

Part V: Quorum Searches

Quorum searches use the '/' operator to find documents containing a certain number of words from your query. For example, "pension benefits retirement plans"/3 matches documents containing at least 3 of these words.

Part VI: Precedence Searches

Precedence searches, using the '<<' operator, find words in the order you specify. For example, benefits << pension will find documents where 'benefits' precedes 'pension'.

Note: The document excerpts displayed in search results are designed to help you determine relevancy. They may not fully reflect the complexity of your query, but the documents matched will.

Combine these search options to refine your results and find the exact pension-related documents you need!
